What are the best neighbourhoods to live in Madrid?

The city of Madrid has 21 districts and their respective neighbourhoods, from which we have made a selection of the most outstanding.

Barrio Salamanca, one of the most luxurious areas

Barrio Salamanca is one of the most elegant and exclusive residential neighbourhoods in Madrid, and therefore the most expensive neighbourhood in the capital.

Both local and foreign investors have focused on this area, which has been steadily increasing in value in recent years.

The emblematic buildings of classical architecture that occupy its streets are home to both stately homesand one of the most important commercial areas of the city.

Calle Serrano, Barrio Salamanca

Its famous Golden Mile, located in the heart of the Salamanca neighbourhood, is an authentic showcase of luxury and glamour, and represents one of the most important shopping areas in Madrid. Among its streets, national and international designers show their creations, and coexist with luxurious boutiques of major brands. In this area you will also find important jewellery and shoe shops, select shops, decoration shops and fashionable restaurants.

Undoubtedly, the most sought-after area for those with high purchasing power, and who are looking for luxurious homes in a select environment. If you find yourself in this situation, check out our offer of luxury flats in Barrio Salamanca.

Those who prefer to live in the centre of Madrid can find in the Retiro district the ideal place, especially for living with children, thanks to the Retiro Park, one of the great lungs of the capital. The price of the properties varies according to their proximity to the park, and this is the case for both properties for sale and those for rent.

It is a quiet area, but it is relatively close to the commercial area of Goya and Serrano, which is a great attraction.

Within its wide range of cultural and artistic offerings,Madrid's 'Art Triangle', formed by the Prado, the Thyssen and the Reina Sofía museums, attracts numerous local and foreign visitors.

Los Jerónimos is the most distinguished neighbourhood in the Retiro District, and to walk through its streets is to enter one of the most stately areas of Madrid, whose classic buildings house spacious premium homes.

It has a wide variety of avant-garde restaurants serving tapas and traditional food, as well as the Mercado de San Antón, which has been refurbished and transformed into a chic space for seasonal products.

In this neighbourhood you can enjoy the most vibrant Madrid, with the colourful spectacles of the mythical Gran Vía and the magnificent commercial offer of the well-known Fuencarral street, pedestrianised for most of its length.

The most emblematic monuments and buildings of the capital are located here, such as the Casino de Madrid - housed in a majestic 19th century building -, the much-photographed Fountain of the Goddess Cibeles in front of the City Hall, or the Círculo de Bellas Artes.

Over the last few years, the area has become increasingly popular, with many people choosing to live in this vibrant and cosmopolitan area.

Chamberí, the trendy neighbourhood

The Chamberí district is one of the most traditional in the capital. It was in the 19th century, when members of the nobility and prosperous merchants began to build their palaces here, making it the area where the Spanish aristocracy settled. Today these palaces and former residences of the nobility still survive today, and are home to embassies, hotels and official buildings, reminiscent of the neighbourhood's aristocratic past.

Chamberí is currently the district with the second most expensive square metre in the municipality of Madrid, and its high standing is largely due to its tranquillity and proximity to shopping and leisure areas. The Almagro district is among the most sought after by both locals and expatriates. Do not hesitate to consult our offer of properties in this area.

Chamartín, residential area and financial centre

The Chamartín district is located in the north of Madrid. It stands out for its large green and residential areas, where we can also find a wide gastronomic, cultural and leisure offer, which has nothing to envy to the central area.

This is an area of great contrasts, as, on the one hand, it is home to the Financial Centre of the capital, with imposing buildings such as the PwC Tower, the Crystal Tower, the Espacio Tower or the Kio Towers, which make up the well-known skyline of Madrid; while on the other hand, we find residential areas such as the Barrio Hispanoamerica with large green areas and wide avenues, or El Viso, where we can find beautiful villas with garden which offer a peaceful environment that will make you forget the hustle and bustle of the city.

It also has excellent connections to the rest of the city and Spain, thanks to Chamartín station as well as Barajas airport, which is relatively close by.
